Recon right up to the southern areas of the city would also be undertaken by standard fighter aircraft, such as Carrier borne Hornets.
A lot of the recon over Afganistan was undertaken by the RAF Canberra PR9s of which could be seen by TV cameras circling for ages, glittering in the sky...
nothing to do with DLR though...
