I agree that it is entirely possible, even very likely, that the attention Area 51 has been getting over the last 13 years is used by "them" to draw attention away from other bases.

However, from Tikaboo Peak you can see that there is activity at the base. Test flights going in and out, vehicles moving around, new hangars being built, the tank farn being removed etc. And when you really think about it, how much "damage" can you really do watching it from 26 miles away.

Minor correction: The Roswell incident happened in 1947, while Area 51 was founded almost a decade later, in 1955. It "went black" immediately after it was founded for the U-2 spy plane development and testing.

As for the satellite images, in fact some of them have mysteriously disappeared from the FAS web site...
