I agree with Dave, definitely worth doing at least once. We did the tour in February 2000. Due to the weather we could not go to some of the sites, because the dirt roads were washed out. Late spring or fall may be a better time.

Also, we were told that we could not see the control center because there were foreign nationals on the tour (me being one of them at the time). Not sure if that was the real reason, though.
Instead we got to see Area 12, which is not normally on the tour. Very interesting.

Watch for the "Gate 700" signs and the powerlines leading east near Sedan Crater. Both lead straight to Area 51.
