Yeah, I should have looked it up again rather than trust my memory. Here is the deal. The USAF summary lists the canopy details as:

DURING EJECTION SEQUENCE THE CANOPY SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT IN A NORMAL MANNER AND IMPACTED APPROXIMATELY [Excised by TM] MILES EAST OF THE WRECKAGE.

but Tom lists the details regarding the canopy as:

The canopy was found by a helicopter five days after the crash just over a mile away from where Ray impacted.

Now you can hopefully understand my confusion, at least regarding the canopy. ;-)
