The pro-26 is no longer manufactured, so that would make it obsolete. Maybe discontinued is a better word? There is nothing wrong with using obsolete scanners. A quick check of the Rat Shack website shows that they don't have any current handheld models that do military air.

For military air scanning, it is unlikely anything new on the market will outperform the older models since the signal is just AM. The only thing that will make a better scanner would be to have better filtering. Generally mobile radios have better filters than handheld scanners, but they are not as easy to transport. Of course, if you are just going to scan from the power lines, then a mobile radio is an option.
