I think it depends on the person you talk to. Most of my equipment that I am using out there would probably considered "cheap" or "obsolete" by folks with a less limited budget. Still, I get good results with it, and that is what counts for me. I have a scanner similar to the one Hank mentioned, and it works just fine around the ranges. The only thing I wish it had is a PC interface to download the channel programming. But for scanners that have that feature you pay easily twice as much.
