It has always (almost, anyways), bothered me that electronic systems could be hardened to a certain specification of EMP field density, and everyone felt smugly confortable that all was OK. But it remains fairly easy for someone to generate a field density higher than the hardening spec.

We initially thought it strange that the MiG 25 (the one that landed in Japan) had vaccuum tubes in its radar and communications suite--backwards they must be. Nope, a hardened system difficult to overcome!!
