It isn't. The death certificate lists a particular claim and that Ray hit 300 yards east of it. On one trip out there I ran into a mining surveyor who was looking at an adjacent claim but only had part of the name. We traded; I gave him the name, he pointed out on my 7.5 minute map where the one listed on the death certificate was located. But I didn't get back to it. The road was just to bad. In retrospect, I probably could have hiked in from where the road gave out. I have noticed a "U" shaped drainage on a aerial photo and hiked into it. My route was not the shortest, but had no ups and downs, just a slow steady uphill grade. Although I scoured the surrounding washes and hills until I was down to 1/2 quart of water I never found any titanium so it probably wasn't "Mahood Wash". Still, you never know.... DaveI wonder if Cherokee Mine is what is in
Walt Ray's death certificate.
