The YF-24 was one of 10 different classified aircraft that he flew. Undoubtedly, most of those aircraft were foreign types operated by the Red Hats. The YF-24, however, remains something of a mystery. It may have been a demonstrator or prototype of some kind. The answer is not yet known.

Yes, the foreign types had YF designations, but so did technology demonstrators like SENIOR TREND, TACIT BLUE, and the Bird of Prey. A MiG-21 or Su-22 might be called a "classified prototype" even though it is really not. It just has a prototype (Y) designation. The YF-117A (SENIOR TREND) was a true prototype for a production model (F-117A Nighthawk) whereas the YF-117D (TACIT BLE) and YF-118G (Bird of Prey) were one-of-a-kind technology demonstrators, more like X-planes than true prototypes.
