Thank you, bandersnatch! That is a great explanation - do you work at NASA or did you just happen to have that lying around at home? ;-)
So rectangular exhausts are not only used for thrust vectoring (F-22), stealth (YF-23A) or scram jets, which for some reason seem to be box-shaped rather than tubular like normal jet engines.
That could mean that the "fastmover" and the "mothership" - if they exist - didn't necessarily have scram jet engines, which officialy only flew on the X-43 in 2004.
