If you plan on visiting certain vantage points such as Tikaboo Peak or the Powerlines Overlook, you should have some hiking experience beforehand and a 4WD vehicle, although I'm not sure how accessible these sites will be in December due weather conditions. Perhaps Joerg can weigh in there. You should be able to see the Janet terminal quite easily from one of the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay, which is just across the street.
