The GL Rd gate is actually closer to the base but the higher elevation makes the hills around the high range repeater an interesting area to explore. Back in the late 90's there was a rumor about a spot in the northern Groom Range on public land where you can see the base. I spent quite a bit of time in those hills and while you can see some remote sites in Emigrant Valley I have not found a view spot for the base itself there. You come frustratingly close to seeing the base, but no joy! I am quite sure no view spot exists there.
