The current issue of Photographic magazine has a nice lens primer. (see attached link) It discusses folded optical designs and talks about some of the pitfalls of such a lens. The image I attached shows how out of focus highlights appear on a mirror reflex lens (or reflector telescope). With a folded optical path lens, sometimes a highlight out of the area of interest will cause an artifact in the area of interest due to how this kind of lens handles images not in the focal plane. [Maybe the photo is better to look at than to interpret my ramblings...] You probably want to save the web pages. I don't know if the magazine archives indefinately.
