I only heard a short segment, but it seemed to me as if Mr. Lazar was not so sure about parts of his story any more. Anyway, there are actually two roads leading from the Groom base to Papoose Lake. One leads around the Papoose Range in the north and east, and then to the north end of the lakebed. The other leads south, then SW from Groom, following Emigrant Valley. Both roads continue past Papoose Lake, and don't seem to be connected to any facility there. Obviously the northern road ca not be seen from Tikaboo because it is on the opposite side of Papoose Mountain. But you can sometimes see headlights at night on the southern road, which continues through Nye Canyon and eventually leads to Mercury. The reference to the bus with an "Area 51" sign was interesting. Although I doubt that it has anything to do with the base, or even the NTS. Maybe someone from Pahrump can give us more information on that.
