A 1990 Aviation Week and Space Technology article titled "Secret Advanced Vehicles Demonstrate Technologies For Future Military Use" regarded Aurora as one of several code names "nested within other code names, all referring to a class of aircraft designed for multiple missions" rather than as the name for the non-existent SR-71 replacement, despite taking note of comments by a government official about Aurora being simply one "site" for B-2 bomber funds when the B-2 was kept under wraps. In 2012 a Washington Post article dated February 8, 1985 that quotes Pentagon sources as saying that Aurora is the codename for the B-2 procurement was declassified.
