There are many names, and several of them have been used as official designations in declassified and unclassified documents. These include Station D, Watertown Airstrip, Area 51, Dreamland, etc. Curtis Peebles always said the Air Force should just give it an official name and have done with it. He suggested calling it "Ritland Air Force Base" because Col. Osmond J. Ritland was primarily responsible for the selection of Groom Lake as a test site for the U-2. Sounds like a good idea to me.
