In theory, yes, I think it will depend upon just how good that image stabilization is on the Coolpix. There's another item that is affected by the amount of aperture you have and that's called depth of field. DoF is the depth of items in focus in you view. A small aperture opening has a greater depth of field than a large opening. So that means when you have your aperture open to it's maximum it will be more difficult to focus than the smaller aperture openings. Since were usually dealing with autofocus cameras it's not as big of a deal as it used to be but it still can have some effect.
