If its going to be in view, get yourself a look see. Even if it is transiting. Have a look right at it. Get familiar with the running lights of C-17 / heavies in general. You'll thank me for it when you get the 'Oh snap!' moment. The 'Oh now that is interesting' moment for me was the audio here on DLR. I asked some buddies and they went all red faced. Round parachutes and disdain for 'legs' and all. Then I sat and looked up.
If you are out in the buggy dodging Saguaro or fancy some Alaskan salmon from the Knik Arm? Keep an eye out on EVERY C-17 flight.
