I got to drive around Holloman some years ago, and was also surprised at how open it was. At one point I had to stop and wait for traffic (a KC-135) to cross in front of me. There were no fences around the F-117A flight line area. In another part of the base I drove past a row of what were clearly cages of some sort. The most secure facility I saw was a single building surrounded by a very high, barbed-wire-topped, double fence. It was placarded with BIOHAZARD warning symbols, and the scariest sign I have ever seen: ADVANCED PRIMATE RESEARCH BIO-CONTAINMENT FACILITY
