It has been a few years since I was at the memorial. Back then, maybe 3-4 years ago, the road was completely washed out in a narrow spot 2 miles before the memorial. We hiked from there. It is not a bad hike, but you need to be prepared. You are completely on your own, no cell reception or anyone around for miles. Please only attempt this if you have experience hiking in a desert environment. Make sure you have a good map and GPS, and be sure to mark where you park your vehicle.
