Of course, tests that require more space are conducted outside the ranges. Back in the days of the A-12 tests sometimes went all the way up to Canada and there were even operational sorties overseas out of Area 51.

Today a lot of these high speed tests are conducted in the Pacific ranges, south and west of the Channel Islands. San Nicolas Island (see attached link) provides support as well as, to some degree, San Clemente Island (new page will be up later today).
