Thanks for the info about the refueling boom, Magoo.
It is hard to tell how long it has been sitting in the desert. In the dry climate things don't show much corrosion or decay, even after decades.

My feeling though, is that it has been sitting there for a while. It is in a very remote area.

Must have been quite an "oops" when it broke off. I would love to know the story behind it...
