Interesting story, but the Bluefire article overlooks the infrastructure that would be required to utilize/support such a secret airfield. How were personnel and materials flown to the site transported and to where? Roads would be a dead give away, so transport would have to be off road. Vehicles leave tracks in sand that can be picked up by satellites, similarly footprints can be detected as well. And where did the vehicles/personnel/material go? Under ground? Into the side of a mountain. Starting to sound a bit Lazarish. All that said, the story of how the Indians clandestinely built and tested their first nuclear weapon under satellite surveillance shows such deception is possible. Until the detonation, no intelligence system/organization in the world had any indication what the Indians were doing.
