I use an Garmin Aera 660 and my iPad running ForeFlight with a GPS(WAAS) position source from my ADS-B transponder. The surveillance and communications on these ranges is incredible. I was able to pick up flight following a few hundred feet off Rachel. Surveillance is definitely better than communications though, when I was in R4806W last time I was approaching Groom at a little under 6000ft and they started issuing boundary alerts, which were pretty scratchy, but they could definitely see me no problem. I was unable to get approach at all between Alamo and VGT last weekend between 4500-5000. Ended up calling Nellis tower towards the end for a class B transition to cut through the surface area for a couple miles, which they approved on a 1200 code.
