At the end of my career I had a newly minted 0-5 work for us who came directly from flying the U-2. I was hoping for some "there I was" type stories, but no such luck. He seemed genuinely embarrassed to tell us his time in U-2s was many hours of airborne tedium and sometimes recovering to really grim places. His fondest recollection was watching a vicious lightning storm below him high above the Indian Ocean.
