My first look at an F-117 up close was during an air show at Fairchild Air Forse Base. They had one on display but it was roped off. They wouldn't allow anybody within 50ft. They also had several armed guards standing around. I think that was a year after Desert Shield.

As for what I saw during the flight, It seems more logical after reading your post that it could have been T-38s.
