1. Several reasons - they had the F-15E and the B-1B, The Vark retirement was a political decision to free up funding for the F-22 and B-2, plus the Vark was also getting very man-hours intensive. They're the official reasons anyway... 2. Because the A-12 was several thousand pounds overweight, $2.5 billion over budget, and 3-4 years overtime. 3. The A-10 is a close air support aircraft, where as the A-12 was going to be a long range precision strike aircraft, therefore there is a quite a large gap in both capability and planend mission, which is neatly filled by the F-16, F-117 and F-15E. The F-20 was to be a lightweight successor for the F-5E and was mainly marketed at nations who couldn't afford F-16s and F/A-18s. The F/A-18 is a large and more capable aircraft that was designed for the carrier borne multi-role mission. Kinda like comparing apples and organges really... So, what's your point with your rhetorical questions? Magoo
