Interesting article. In the late 80s, I was visiting a business in Sunnyvale, adjacent to Moffatt Federal Field, and heard a weird engine sound (somewhat different then the P3s that usually used the field) looked up, and saw a U-2 with two wind pods. I now know from the article that it was a U2-R. Quite rare, but I was there.
