Hiking rough country alone is never a good idea. (Lord knows we have all done it.) One slip, broken bones, can result in disaster. Be sure to let someone know where you go and when you should return. Check in when you return so they don't dispatch the rescue party. I like the idea of caching water along the way. I always am surprised at the volume of water I consume in this hot, dry, windy country. Usually, I load my truck with a full 5-gallon water jug in addition to what I plan to drink.
