I have not been up there recently, so I hope someone who has can chime in on the road conditions. 2L water is NOT enough. You need at least a gallon. Plan for 90-100 degree heat in very dry air! Some people stash water on their way up for when they come down. Last time I was up there the Verizon coverage at the top was marginal, but most of the time you could get a signal. Since then the Alamo site has been upgraded to 4G and much better coverage. I would expect a decent signal at the top. I would appreciate an update on the coverage after your hike. Enjoy, and be safe.
