There are a surprising number of ponds in that general area
of Antelope Valley, some of which are quite large. Some may
be for percolation to recharge aquifers, but others may be for
waste treatment. If you do any flying in the area, they are quite
noticeable, and as I said, something of a surprise in the middle
of a desert.
