I always thought that ASTRA stood for Advanced Stealth Technology Reconnaissance Aircraft. As in a possible SR-71 replacement.

In Andreas Parsch's excellent Groom Lake article on suspected Groom Lake aircraft on here. It's referred to as 'stealthy replacement for the F-111 Aardvark'. I would have thought if it is a Reconnaissance aircraft, then it would have a secondary role as a strike aircraft.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Or am I completely wrong about what ASTRA stands for?
