This makes a truly interesting statement of another sort, for those of you who follow the DoD's 'Mission Statemnt' guidline updates for new contracts.

The 'all-electronic' aircraft has actually be technically possible for some time - however, no serious development has been done on it, despite the obvious advantages. that is becuase of guidlines in place that would render such an aircraft 'unfit', at least until now:

Such an aircraft cannot be 'hardened' against and EMP effect. Such a EM Pulse as created by the detonation of of a nuclear 'device' would complete disable such an aircraft. If this system is being seriously considered for frontline military use, it makes an iteresting statement on either: A) The perceived likelyhood of nuclear usage (either with the aircraft as a carrier of a 'device', or fighting within effective EMP range of strategic or tactical weapons), or

B) A striking change in the 'minimum survivability' rules for front-line aircraft.
