Some years ago I worked on a naval surface to surface missile that was supposed to go after Soviet missile boats. This missile dove on its target at a steep angle and homed in on the radar reflections off of the boat--bi-static case. Numerous tests were failures because the missile seeker 'liked' the reflections off of the wake better than the scintillating reflections off of the target boat. The fix was a mod to the seeker to adjust the aim point in the terminal phase of homing. After that mod the missiles hit the target boat dead center!! So a wake can be a source of detection and guidance, if you don't actually aim at the wake.
