No other cars or trucks for miles. If you look on Google Maps at that area, it's somewhat remote desert, likely with locals as the only frequent travelers.
Two guys in each SUV.
No aircraft that I noted.

I don't think I'd have caught them if I'd turned around ... at least not with out doing 95MPH for 10 or 15 minutes.
I'm not sure I'd really seriously consider trying though, not with six deputies and the truck driver ... most likely all of whom were armed if I read the situation right.

The three SUV's were tight to the front, side, and rear of the semi.
