Sub-sonic long range bombers have always posed a problem. Slow response times means reliance on allies for bases in order to deliver in a timely fashion. It also shackles us from being able to strike without implicating those allies. We already have stealthy slow bombers. Why not spend that money on the hypersonic aircraft we really need. Surely the technology and efficiencies relating to minimizing sonic booms, etc. is there for the right price.
