Sounds like a great trip. I am hoping someone else can chime in about the GPS. I use an older Garmin Etrex Vista HCX. Not sure if it is still being sold, but it never failed me. Most current GPS are probably at least as good. You will love the Pioneer Saloon. Its one of my favorite places to go for a short Sunday afternoon ride. I don't think there is a Red Flag in December. The JFEX exercise scheduled for Dec.12 involves mostly C-130 and C-17 doing drops and touch-and-go's at the Keno air strip near Cedar Gate, north of Rachel. But if you hang by the speedway gates on Las Vegas Blvd. north of Nellis you can see aircraft fly in and out of Nellis pretty much any given work day. The likelihood of seeing "exotic" aircraft is much greater during Red Flag though.
