Previous missions to Afghanistan were supposedly looking for mineral resources using a multispectral imager that could "see" into the structure of Earth's crust. It seems like that would also reveal any caves that might serve as hiding places for people with bad intent.

Interesting how this science aircraft has been stripped of all its NASA markings and the registration number has been reduced in size so that it is all but invisible. This was also true for the Afghan deployments. Seems funny that the CIA used to paint their U-2 spy planes in bogus NASA markings but NASA removes all identifying insignia from its B-57 for international "science" missions. Just sayin'.
