There is a lot of good information about the quiet helicopter's mission in a March 2008 article from AIR&SPACE magazine. Also, in "The Black Bats" by Chris Pocock and Clarence Fu we learn that the mission was originally to be flown by Nationalist Chinese pilots from Taiwan's 34th Squadron. They trained for the mission at Area 51, but later encountered so much difficulty during final preparations in Laos - including crashing one of the special choppers - that the CIA replaced them with American pilots.
