Still not convinced that there was an operational successor those contrails could have been a test article or indeed as suggested some SR71's may have remained active as we have seen with the F117. The Cold War was coming to an end was there justification in a big budget spy plane at this time? Stealth not speed became the main focus. Cyber War was emerging as an easy way to see what your enemy was up to and currently more so than ever.
If the B2 was readily shown to the World why not also show an SR72 or whatever it might have been called you make your enemy aware of your strength to act as a deterrent. More hands please I would love to be proved wrong.
