I notice his theory of bringing a destination closer to a traveler and going faster than the speed of light seems to have gained some traction afterall. What he said about Element 115 seems to verify from what I've heard.
I heard him one night on the radio, and his frustration and outright "why did I do this" about coming forward seemed real to me, and not like a hoaxer would sound. I don't know, but I do think a lot of people have a real stake in seeing he is completely discredited.
