The U-2 retirement is being pushed by the powerful Global Hawk lobby, and the AIr Force is essentially giving up on trying to save the U-2 even though it is more capable.

We may expect to see the RQ-180 (if that is indeed what it's called) undergoing testing at Edwards in the not too distant future.
