How about similar support for the A-10?? This was also discussed recently in the same thread, and no one could put it any better regarding the A-10 than Andre' M. Dall'au's post from 3/7/14.

There is just absolutely no way that the F-35 or any other fixed-wing aircraft can replace what the A-10 can do over the battlefield.
