According to an article published yesterday in the USNI News, the Navy plans of starting research and development for the replacement of the F-18 aircraft starting in 2015 with deployment starting in 2035. The possibility of also replacing the F-22 platform with the same aircraft is also discussed in the article. The county sounds like the F-35 program all over again where we end up with a single aircraft that can do a lot of things but none of them very well.
