The Halo around the Moon is quite common and it also happens to the Sun basically ice crystals high up in the atmosphere refract the light hitting Earth and just like a rainbow it bends. Dust and pollution rises up into the Stratosphere and beyond, moisture forms around these particles and at this altitude it freezes.

One day I will make it out there one of the main reasons will be to be under those dark skies with a 16" telescope and do some serious astronomy. So when I win the lottery I will let you all know and you can share the heavens with me.
