Not sure about Groom perimeter security on the western side. But there is a gate, called "Gate 700", which controls the only access road to the NTS. The guy that Gary mentioned was Jerry Freeman (see attached link). He supposedly made it to Papoose Lake, but I understand he never entered the Groom Perimeter. And I am sure he knew why. If you manage to get past the cammos you WILL get caught by Military Police, and you will WISH the cammos had caught you. I understand that your question is hypothetical. But for everyone who may consider something like this, DON'T. You WILL get in serious trouble, to say the least.
