I think the fact that we found out about the program at all is possibly due to the crash. It seems like it was still a sensitive project, and they may have never told us about it after the mission. There isn't that much available information on some short term former projects which have been declassified , like HALSOL. It didn't seem like that project was a very large scale, prototype to production kind of program like the Stealth fighter.
