There's been program on Smithsonian Channel on "mighty planes" or something like that.....Recently they showed one of the new upgraded C-5 known as an "M" Super Galaxy.....New "glass" cockpit, and new engines.....The program followed a crew flying from the USA to Afghanistan 'non-stop'......
" The Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Program (RERP) began in 2006. It includes new General Electric F138-GE-100 (CF6-80C2) engines, pylons and auxiliary power units, upgrades to aircraft skin and frame, landing gear, cockpit and pressurization systems".
The USAF is upgrading the C-5 'B's' and 'C's' and a few 'A's'.......
You may be thinking of the C-141 which was withdrawn from service by 2006.......
