That is Slater Lake, an artificial pond named for former Roadrunners commander Col. Hugh "Slippery" Slater. It was originally built in the 1960s as a recreational facility and was stocked with fish. I'm not sure if recreational use was curtailed when the radar sites were built nearby in the 1970s and 1980s. In recent years, it has evolved into two smaller ponds.
