I received the reply to my November 2012 MAFEX FOIA request via email this morning. The first thing that caught my eye is the name change from MAFEX to JFE. JFEX? This is a bit confusing and I'm not convinced it is accurate but what do I know... Second, the date is Friday, November 30, 2012 from 1545 to 2100 local time. In the past, MAFEX was always held on the 3rd Wednesday of May and November, but I guess if they changed the name they could also change the date. The local time of the exercise is consistent with last year's time. Looks like I'll be bringing my thermal underwear and night vision binoculars with me! Lastly, according to my notes, the participating units are almost identical to last May's MAFEX units. Hmmm, I'm wondering if they just recopied May's info??? May's FOIA reply was spot on with what was in the air. I still plan to keep an eye out for the KLSV NOTAM as the time draws near. May's NOTAM gave the KENO airfield callsign as well as the frequencies.
